Project eCycle is actively working with A Foundation for Education on a laptop donation into Delhi, India.  A Foundation for Education was created because a group of friends discovered Alpha Public School and wanted to help.  In Delhi, India the average income is $750.00 (USD) and many families cannot afford to send their children to school.  Alpha Public School charges tuition of $8.00 (USD) a month, which many cannot afford, therefore they apply for scholarships.  About 40% of the students at Alpha Public School are on scholarships.

Even though Alpha Public School charges tuition they do not have enough funds for proper school supplies let alone computers.  The volunteers of A Foundation for Education make yearly trips into Delhi to bring the school basic supplies and to help train the teachers at the school.  As of now the school only has two laptops, which are loaded with Rosetta Stone to help teach the children English and Hindi.  However more laptops are desperately needed, this is where Project eCycle can help.

As part of Project eCycle’s commitment to give back to low income communities worldwide we are donating six laptops to the Alpha Public School in Delhi, India.  We feel it is important to promote education to people of all ages, worldwide.  In America we see our old and outdated technology as being obsolete or electronic waste, however to many countries whose populations are overwhelmed with poverty, our old technology is still modern and very useful.  We are taking America’s unwanted obsolete computers and are finding places, such as India, where these old computers will receive a whole new life.

To help fund the logistics fees for this donation to India, Project eCycle will be auctioning off two refurbished laptops at the Toorcon Convention (www.toorcon.org) in San Diego, CA, September 26-28th, 2008.  If you would like to help us on this project or any of our other open projects with monetary or electronic waste donations please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
